Committed to providing a safe, fun and inclusive environment where all participants feel welcome and are treated with respect, Gymnastics Australia has today launched its updated Inclusion Policy.

Understanding that every Australian should have the right to participate in sport, the policy reflects Gymnastics Australia’s core values of helping people lead happy, healthy and active lives.

We want to create a safe and inclusive environment that welcomes participation from people with a disability or chronic health condition, those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and the LGBTQI+ community.

Speaking about the launch of the policy, Gymnastics Australia’s CEO, Kitty Chiller AM believes that community sport brings so much to the lives of millions of Australians, and it is our responsibility to ensure our sport is as fair and accessible to all.

“With the launch of this policy, we are making a strong statement to not only our existing members but also to future members, to say that we are committed to working with our affiliated clubs to ensure that anyone who walks into a gymnastics club feels welcome and supported,” said Chiller.

“Through our partnerships with key organisations such as Pride in Sport and Special Olympics Australia, we want to help promote positive messages and examples of inclusive behaviour.”

Special Olympics Australia, CEO, Pierre Comis, echoed Chiller’s comments stating, “Special Olympics Australia values the contribution of Gymnastics Australia to create an environment that supports participation opportunities for everyone, and particularly for people with intellectual disability and autism. Gymnastics is a great sport for developing fundamental movement skills and physical literacy, which provides the foundation for people of all abilities to live a happy, healthy and active life.”
