Wayne Roberts pledges funding for Devonport Gymnastics Club

Wayne Roberts, Labor Candidate for Braddon today announced a $250,000 election promise to the Devonport Gymnastics Club to fund facility redevelopment at the club.

Gymnastics Tasmania sees this proposed development as vital to capitalise on a period of strong membership growth on the North-West Coast.

"Gymnastics Tasmania is committed to working with Government at all levels and local clubs to develop new and improved facilities state-wide. The development of the new building for Devonport Gymnastics Club is an integral step in our Facilities Strategy and 2018-2021 Gymnastics in Tasmania Strategic Plan.” Gymnastics Tasmania President Leigh Oswin Said.

“The current Devonport facility has been at capacity for a number of years and is no longer fit for purpose in developing the strong calibre of gymnasts that the club consistently produces. The new facility will allow the club to continue to serve the Devonport community and enable future growth, improved quality and increased participation opportunities for the North West Coast more broadly."

Gymnastics Tasmania is experiencing a period of strong membership growth state wide highlighted by strong growth on the North-West Coast. Devonport Gymnastics Club experienced 17% membership growth in 2017 with clubs based in Burnie and Wynyard growing by 8% in the same period. A new club in Circular Head has just affiliated with Gymnastics Tasmania.
